Using the Marking/placement guide

All Blue Moon Designs LLC’s Matboard kits come with a Marking/placement guide.  The guide is 1” larger than the Matboard kit.  This will provide a ½” margin around the design.

Marking the work

Lay the Marking/placement guide on the face of the work piece.  Use it like a frame to crop the work as desired.

Using a fabric marker, mark the outside of the guide.  Use this mark to cut the fabric, confidently knowing you’ll have ½” margin around the desired part of the work piece.

If adding batting to the matboard to provide a bit of relief to your work, use the Marking/placement guide and use the inside to mark the batting to provide a crisp corner where the work piece wraps the matboard or use the outside so the batting also wraps the matboard for a softer look.

Placing the work

When placing the work on the matboard, I like to use a quick spray of 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive general purpose spray adhesive on the matboard (batting if already attached to the matboard).  With the work face down, lay the Marking/placement guide and align the outside of guide with the cut edge of the fabric.  This should provide the same “crop” or placement from the first step.  Lay the matboard on the back of the work, in the center of the guide.  Lift the guide off the work.  The matboard should be perfectly centered on the work piece.  Finish the back with your favorite method: glue, running stitch, etc.
